Why social anxiety shows up

This psychoeducational resource is designed to help young people understand why social anxiety commonly emerges during adolescence.

It outlines key contributing factors including evolutionary responses to social threat, neurobiological differences in sensitivity, the impact of past experiences, and the role of self-perception. The resource supports clinicians in normalising anxiety responses while facilitating reflective discussion and engagement in early-stage CBT work.
